Recovery day 7 - Isla's second VEPTR placement surgery

Today was another full day!
We want to start by thanking you all for the prayers!
We felt them and are so grateful!

Isla had another rougher night of getting sleep, but woke up happy this morning...sweet girl!
At 10:30am we took her over to Fluoroscopy here at CHOP to have her swallow study done.
Isla was pretty upset on our way over, but she was so brave and did SO WELL through it!
In a nutshell: Isla did fairly well eating pureed food but when she had a liquid, she aspirated with first drink. Because she did so well with the small bites of puree, she was cleared to eat purees! YAY!
We were told she still needed to be off liquids by mouth (including medications) and there was still concern about Isla's vocal chords and swallowing safely with liquids.
To celebrate that news, Isla ate about 5 ounces of yogurt and applesauce when we got back to her room! Big celebration!
Isla played for a bit and took a short nap and ENT showed up to do another scope through her nose and down her throat to visualize if anything has gotten better from last scope from Saturday (9/15).
Isla, of course, was so sad through the scope, but I was able to hold her this time through the procedure. They were able to get a really clear reading and the ENT resident doing the scope was very kind.
ENT confirmed that Isla has left vocal chord paralysis.
We do not know yet if this will be temporary or is more permanent. We are praying it is temporary, but we will take it one step at a time with her eating and follow up with both Seattle Children's and here at CHOP.

A huge blessing, Isla was able to eat over 8 oz of purees tonight for dinner! yay!

Another milestone in the recovery journey...Isla got to have her "wound vac" removed today!
This device creates a vacuum seal with the dressing over the incision. It was attached to her incision, right after surgery, to help keep the incision sealed and clean and to promote healing.

We had the fun opportunity to have a little visit with our sweet friends! They were here for an appointment and were able to stop by! Thank you for the visit friends!

Zeke is such a trooper and so sweet...we miss being with him more, but are so thankful for Grandma Deb's help in this journey! Such a blessing!
Our hearts are all missing home...
It is still unknown how long Isla will have to stay at the hospital...we hope to have a more clear answer on that tomorrow. We all want Isla to be healthy, able to take medications by mouth, and have strength before we leave.
Praying for great rest for all of us tonight. Tomorrow is a new day.
