This week, we are headed into Isla's 3rd surgery in a year and
our 4th trip to Philadelphia.
This will be her first VEPTR expansion surgery.
This surgery is to expand the two VEPTR rods that were placed in May and Sept. 2018. This process is to slowly open up both sides of her ribcage to make room for her lungs to grow. We hope and pray that her lung tissue will grow and she will have more lung capacity for her body. Lung tissue does not grow quickly...so we will continue taking all the steps we can to help her body.our 4th trip to Philadelphia.
This will be her first VEPTR expansion surgery.
We leave early this week for Philadelphia for Isla's pre-op appointments and surgery date of Feb 22 at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. If all goes as planned, Isla should only need to be in the hospital for 1-2 nights.
While this surgery is not as intense as her past two, it is still surgery and difficult none the less.
We feel thankful for such great doctors and that there is hope for our girl, yet our hearts ache to see her go through this. It is bittersweet.
She has been such a little warrior. It is not easy on her and in her safe-space at home, between all the surgeries, appointments, and therapies, she processes so much.
It is hard for a little one to understand! She continues to grow in trust with us and we pray that she will feel peace through each step.
We praise God for how incredibly well she is doing.
She is growing in so many ways!
- Please pray:
- for Isla's body to stay healthy so she can best heal from surgery...for a successful surgery and a safe/great recovery! Isla has been healthy...we do not take that for granted! We praise the Lord!
- for Isla's mind and heart through this...it is so hard on her.
- for Zeke - He feels deep bravery for his sister, but also feels nervous for what she goes through. He is very protective. Please pray for him to feel at peace.
- for smooth and safe flights/travel and for us to stay healthy through this trip!
- for Justin and I as we balance all the details - for wisdom in decisions and for endurance!
We are so grateful for the encouragement and prayers that so many of you continue to bless us with!
We truly need it and are deeply grateful! Please pray for Isla and our family and ask others to pray as well! THANK YOU! ❤

A little update on our days:
This past month we have seen some spring-like weather here in Seattle area!
In Zeke's school curriculum, we were learning about many animals...so we took a trip to the Woodland Park Zoo here in Seattle! The sun was shining and while the morning started out a bit chilly...it still was fairly warm and a great day for the zoo! Zeke loved seeing swimming beetles and Isla loved the hippos!
Within a couple more weeks we had a crazy snowstorm come through Seattle! We had about 12" total...not usual for Seattle! They kids enjoyed playing with snow...not often that we get to!
We had a sweet time celebrating Chinese New Year - year of the pig!
We had a simple celebration at home. ❤
We enjoyed creating our own decorations - lanterns and pigs! We loved reading books, playing a pig game, and eating yummy food! It is so much fun to celebrate!
